About Michael
Justice Michael Massengale traces his Texas roots to his great-great-great grandfather Alfred Madison Massengale, who moved to Texas in 1852. Michael was born into an Air Force family, and with his family's help he paid his way through college with scholarships and by delivering pizza. Michael entered The University of Texas School of Law where he worked as an editor of Texas Law Review. He graduated with honors and served a 2-year clerkship for a federal appeals court.
Michael is a former partner of the Baker Botts law firm in Houston, where for nearly 10 years he represented both plaintiffs and defendants in business disputes. He was elected in 2010 to serve the remainder of an unexpired term. His practice areas included corporate mergers and acquisitions, fraudulent transfers, securities fraud, and antitrust. He also worked on personal injury and property damage lawsuits.
Michael is also a life-long conservative. He is a former precinct chairman of the Harris County Republican Party. Before becoming a judge, he served for four years as president of the Houston Chapter of the Federalist Society.
On June 15, 2009, Governor Rick Perry appointed Michael to the First Court of Appeals. He is a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, and in early January 2012 Justice Michael Massengale married Dr. Lindsey Harris, a retina surgeon practicing in Houston.
